Nate Barber, Senior Associate at Harcus Parker, was quoted in The Guardian on Reform UK’s proposal to replace the Equality Act 2010 with a new Women and Motherhood Protection Act.
The article explored concerns that the proposals could weaken equal pay protections, including the right for workers to bring claims where they believe work traditionally done by women has been undervalued compared with work traditionally done by men.
Nate, who is a leading solicitor for Equal Pay Action, acting for Morrisons, Asda and Sainsbury's workers in equal pay claims, explained that the focus should be on strengthening equal pay rights, not replacing or weakening them.
He highlighted the need for better funding and resourcing of the Employment Tribunal system, so equal pay claims can be resolved more quickly and workers can enforce the rights Parliament has already given them.
